The magic of 'coincidence'
A couple of weeks ago, over dinner the book 'The Four Agreements' was recommended to me by a friend. Said friend and I share many of the same beliefs when it comes to our guru's and guides in life. So I wrote down the title in my little black book (I mean iphones notes) knowing I would get to it in time. Then I got back to eating.
Two days later, the picture featured here was re-posted on instagram by the brand I'm wearing in it (which is K-Deer, they make AWESOME tights). Randomly the pic was hashtagged with 'thefouragreements' amongst other things. I have no idea why, I mean what has a picture of me in my tights got to do with this book? What I do know is that I am unquestionably meant to read it. One click on Amazon later and it was winging it's way to me.
Over the course of my life I've become increasingly convinced that there is no such thing as a coincidence. That in fact if I pay attention, what I once believed was coincidence is far more likely to be a sign post. Within the IIN Health Coaching materials this is referred to as synchronicity. Whatever you call it, as I navigate through my life I have come to appreciate these signs and even welcome them. As I read the first of the agreements today it reasonated so powerfuly I felt compelled to write about it. Imagine if the fact you are reading this now, in this very moment is also part of the Universe's great plan for you. How would that make you feel? What would be your response?
As per the book, the first agreement is 'be impeccable with your word'. I'm not going to explain how to live in to this, if it's piked your interest, you should absolutely buy or borrow the book. Suffice to say, for me the words in the books 'first agreement' are indeed impeccable.
Right now I am writing this post from the comfort of my hotel bed in beautiful Punta Del Este, Uruguay. I should have been in Brazil. Unfortunately I didn't realize that being Australian a Tourist Visa is required for me to visit Brazil! My plans were thrown into disarray as this fact was delivered to me on the very day I was due to fly out of of NYC. Sure I had some uncomfortable and stressful moments (as did my poor travel partner who's plans I also caused havoc on!). We both chose not to let those moments last for long though. I mean, life is such a grand adventure we know that would be a waste. Instead we both got busy making quick decisions. Which meant a day later I was in Buenos Aires, Argentina. From there I was led to Uruguay (as was friend, although via Rio), to this hotel, to this bed and this blog post.
Why I was not supposed to end up in Brazil now I'll never know. I just know that I am thouroughly enjoying a different trip. It's stunning here. I'm actually coming back in February for a yoga retreat and it's been awesome to get the measure of the place in advance, it's definitely helped me make some different travel choices. Maybe that's why I'm here? Whatever the case, I know, without question I am exactly where I am supposed to be right now. In Punta Del Este, with Lisa G, lying on my bed in the Atlantico hotel blogging and about to go for a run along the beach.
How often do you experience the magic of 'coincidence'? I believe it's far more magic than coincidence. And if you embrace it, at the end is often times where the good stuff lies.
When was the last time you felt the power of the Universe guiding you to a different place than you had planned? What did you learn? I would love to hear about it, to hear more evidence of what I believe to be true. Magic, rainbows and unicorns. Please respond in the comments below. Gracias!
