Which wolf are you feeding?

Twice recently I've been told the story of the two wolves by yoga teachers. Firstly at Wanderlust in Lake Tahoe and then more recently at Love Yoga this weekend (Montauk - Heather Lilleston). In both instances I was struck by the simplicity of the story. And the amount of truth in it. I can totally identify with the concept.

I've got a confession. Lately, I have been feeding my bad wolf way too much. I credit a combination of my health challenges, heart challenges, my summer house/vacations and my rebellious personality.  Whatever the case there's no denying that my good wolf has been going hungry.

I woke up thinking about this today. A change in season is a natural moment in time to redirect your course. With the start of fall/autumn I'm committed to doing just that. The story of the wolves this Labor Day weekend was timely. A great big slap in the face and clear way forward. It's time to start beefing up my good wolf again. But how do I go about doing that?

The answer is simple. There is only ONE thing to change. That one thing is my thoughts. Our thoughts have the power to change our reality. They dictate our behaviour and lead to how we feel. Feeding the good wolf is therefore as simple as quieting your dark fear based thoughts and turning up the volume on kindness, self acceptance and love.

The concept may sound simple but actually making the change is harder. I know in myself that I've created a nice little swirl in my head of late and it's going to take a lot of work to break out of it. But the good news is, that's work I'm prepared to do. One day at a time I am going to bust out of this vicious cycle. My good wolf might have lost the current battle, but I promise you, it's going to win the war.

So rather than dreading the change in season I am choosing to use it as a positive turning point. To center myself. To come back home to me. I'm going to do it gently but inch by inch, I promise to get there.

Are you thinking of making any shifts or changes with the seasons? Please share if you are. There's strength in numbers and I'd love you to help keep me honest :)

To end I'm going to quote the recently departed legend Dr Wayne Dyer. Such a wise man, so many wise words it's hard to choose one quote.  So here are four:

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change

How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours

When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself

Conflict can not survive without your participation
