How I accidentally became a "Human Design for Marketing" Coach
When I first began my “experiment“ it was well and truly early along on the adoption curve (it’s still early, just less so in the coaching world to be fair!). I’m talking about late 2018.
I was fortunate enough to meet the incredible Emma Dunwoody when I was growing my doTERRA network marketing business. She showed up at the invitation of my sister in law. We connected quickly and next thing you know were meeting up for coffee to chat about the business side of doTERRA.
Em was already deep into Human Design by then and the beginning stages of introducing it to clients. She spoke about with huge passion and conviction…so of course I booked a chart “unpack” in.
Looking back, I was fascinated BUT a little skeptical. Primarily because I genuinely was coming from a place of no idea what even is this. And also I’m all for the woo, but with a dose of where’s the proof!?
Despite that, I definitely resonated with everything she shared. Do what lights you up, she said. Perfect I thought, that’s what I want to do anyway! And off I continued on my merry way.
Oh and it wasn’t lost on me that I had already given my business the moniker of #litupandliberated BEFORE this moment! I was like WOW, that is crazy.
18 months or so later, I invested in working with Em privately, because I was navigating self worth issues as a struggling entrepreneur (totally open will centre peoples!). Working together she supported me to make the biggest decision of my biz owner journey to date - and that was deciding to become a business coach.
I will never forget the coaching call when she pointed out to me the shift in my energy (towards fully lit!) when I talked about my business coaching clients vs life coaching ones. The reflection of this truth back to me was massive & it was absolutely a defining moment.
Over time my resonance & belief in the power of human design grew, so it’s no surprise that when Emma launched her Human Design “reader training” mastermind, I was a big YES. But if I’m honest (and I always am, principles, principles, principles - I have gate 49 in my North node both personality & design!)… I was so busy in the “hustle” of growing my business coaching profile by then, I didn’t extract enough juice (totally on me) to make it meaningful.
Or you could say, it wasn’t the right timing. Here’s what I had to say about working with Emma at the time.
It took me another two full years in fact, to bring HD into my coaching business more formerly. And in many ways it wasn’t intentional when it did happen.
Because I’m a business coach first and foremost, and human design is great for understanding yourself and your purpose…but building your business?
#coughcough I was so wrong.
Which I finally discovered after going through a kind of reckoning in my coaching business that led to me questioning EVERYTHING. 2022 has been an interesting year for me, with a mis-step in the form of a business model that took me backwards.
It was in the recovery from this (and a nasty dose of Covid) that I leaned into my own design more than ever before.
The next step was a new offer (new me and all!) that my intuition told me short HD readings would be a great fit for.
I pitched them as “human design for marketing'“ readings & then realised I needed to do a bit more digging to figure out which parts of the chart would support my clients most. I found myself investing in a reading with the legendary Juliett Stapleton, of Visibility by Design.
I also met up with Emma around this time and she had a chuckle at this “late to the party” uptake & shared her perspective on the topic.
Ultimately in the weeks that followed, I unpacked 6 charts in short succession, through the lens of “marketing by human design” and the door opened wide.
A door that I didn’t even know was there!
Within weeks my whole business began to transform before my eyes.
My incredible Mastermind community shouted for more of this human design stuff please! And then I dove into their charts too….
The crowd went wild.
And finally, it would seem, my line one was thoroughly satisfied, that I am indeed qualified to support my clients in this area.
This was followed by opening up “unpack” sessions which sold out in record time. Again, the feedback was phenomenal.
So there’s no denying it, my 30 year background in marketing, fused with four year long gradual integration of human design adds up to #gamechanging.
Now? I’m busy dreaming up the next frontier of my business with Human Design front and centre.
